Lifewriting Your Monologue shows you how to transform your life experience into theatre. Joy Reilly takes you through the writing process as you create monologues that reflect your own story. Use her company, Howling at the Moon, as your model. Their poetry and prose pieces will inspire you to create your own. They can be used in class, in group readings, or on stage.

 


Joy Reilly, PhD Joy, originally from Dublin, was a journalist and advertising copywriter in London and Frankfurt before becoming a professor at the Ohio State University.She has created eight oral history based scripts, including the Emmy aware-winning musical I was Young, Now I'm Wonderful for Grandparents Living Theatre. She uses lifewriting with The Writing Company at OSU and as artistic director of Howling at the Moon, whose monologues are featured inside. Reilly hosted the first International Senior Theatre Festival in 2002.)

Howling, a diverse group of artists from a variety of very different backgrounds, first performed together at the first International Senior Theatre League of America Festival and Conference, hosted by Ohio State in August 2002. The company now conducts workshops and performs its constantly changing program of material about the exquisite art of growing old for conferences, arts festivals, educational events, and at a variety of venues. Each writer presents her own thoughts as an ongoing conversation with the audience.
